Just north of the Mexican border lies a small town, pretty
in some parts, barren and windy in others - much like its inhabitants. The
people of Las Breakup are probably like those that you find in any town – a
diverse set of characters, some local, some from even as far away as New York
and Portland, Oregon. Like everyone else they have their own lives with its
own unique problems and often their problems are the same as ours.
How do they handle their issues? With lots of thought and
careful planning? Not really; life always seems to do whatever it wants and often
they just find themselves in the way of it. And then it catches them up and
whisks them along whether they want to go or not. Just like it does with us.
So here we are in situations we didn’t plan for and with
people we just met, or without the people that we once had and still love. So
then we fumble and make mistakes. We use bad judgment to make life-changing
decisions because all of this is new to us and we don’t know how to behave.
Welcome to your breakup. And the people of Las Breakup? That
small fictional town just north of the Mexican border? All of the inhabitants have
a tale to tell including Jack, who has a wild night out with the girls from
the Really Butterly Margarine Factory and vows never to get drunk again. There’s
Quentin who shops on Ferry Street and surprises his wife Jan with an unusual
gift that ultimately breaks up their marriage. What kind of a gift could
possibly do that?
Their stories make fascinating reading and until the book
comes out, the website and blog will introduce you to Las Breakup. Who am I? I
am someone who was born there and who knows everyone’s history and everyone’s
business. And yes, I have plenty of stories to tell and advice to give!
